So I went to turn off my PC last night and was happy to see
Update and Shutdown
as an option again.
Since first installing Windows 8 I was having to let it do updates and restart and then shut it down once it had restarted. Windows 8.1 lets me do it the sensible way as when I have finished using my PC I want the updates installed without needing more interaction to turn it off.
This little improvement has made me quite happy! I wonder what other tweaks I am yet to spot in Windows 8.1, but I do love booting to the desktop again.
I do worry I am becoming an IT luddite, but I think I dislike metro over the start menu as it is not an improvement.
